A Prairie Courtship
: Alison Leigh had some problems in England, so decided to emigrate to Canada. She had a reference to a job in Winnipeg, but upon arrival, found the company had gone out of business. Adrift, Alison headed west in hopes of staying with a woman she had known in England, Florence Hunter. Having no other options, itinerant peddler, Leslie "Maverick" Thorne offers to take her to the Hunter wheat farm.
They stopped for the night at the Farquhar farm, where Mrs. Farquhar told Alison that she would be welcome to live (and work a bit) with them if things did not work out at the Hunters'. In short order, Alison learns the Hunters have borrowed heavily against the coming wheat crop, but a freak hailstorm threatens the crop, making it impossible to pay off their debt and facing the real possibility of losing their farm to the nefarious money lender. Hopefully, Maverick can thwart the bad guy, making it possible for him to finally settle down with Alison as his wife. But, nothing is certain in life, and the money lender is not likely to go away quietly.
