Following up an appearance on the HOUSE OF WAX horror-movie soundtrack, the Canadian quintet Stutterfly unleashed its major-label debut in 2005. A potent mix of nu-metal and hardcore, AND WE ARE BLED OF COLOR features blazing guitar riffs and machine-gun-like rhythms, all of which lay a solid foundation for Chris Stickney's vocals. As with like-minded metal frontmen of the early 2000s, Stickney combines melodic singing with throat-scraping screams, hammering home the urgency of these tunes. The group's single "Gun in Hand" (from the aforementioned soundtrack) is a lumbering, anthemic track with plenty of gymnastic six-string lines, while "Bury Me (The Scarlet Path)" showcases the delicate side of Stutterfly before the song launches into a full-on metallic barrage. With song titles like "Formula of Flesh" and "Life's Disease," Stutterfly is clearly not a sunny, feel-good act, and its dedication to bleak metal-core is sure to win over fans of the style.
