Barefoot Gaijin: Loving Japan Without Losing Myself is Anne's third book exploring Japanese culture. Throughout her fourteen years in Japan, Anne has struggled with trying to fit into Japanese society, but not lose her identity in the process. This book is a collection of essays exploring various aspects of the culture that have caused her to struggle the most, including religion, relationships, and parenting. While she has not yet figured it all out, putting her thoughts and feelings onto paper in this book has surely helped. She hopes that this book will encourage others living in a cross-cultural context that with a little work and a lot of thought, it is indeed possible to love your adopted country without losing yourself.
