The story begins with a murder that happened while she was lecturing. It relates all the ways the author sought relief - from self-medication with alcohol, drugs, and sex to psychics to counseling and psychiatry. Most importantly, it reveals how real healing began when the author camped with shamans in Mexico, with a culture vastly different from her own.
