CRIME SMASHERS began publication by the Trojan Magazine in October of 1950. Trojan is best
known for their line of Spicy pulps, starting with Spicy-Detective Stories. Its popularity spawned
four more "Spicy" titles, including Spicy-Adventure Stories. One of the publishers connected to
the Culture/Trojan group was none other than co-founder of D.C. Comics, Harry Donenfeld. When
the popularity of the pulps began to dwindle in the 1950's, it didn't take long before the folks at
Trojan realized there was money to be made in comic books.
The stories contained here in were published to shock and titillate the reader. The hard-bitten
tales regularly featured gangsters, dancing girls, gats, gun molls-with the occasional scene of
torture and bondage tossed in to keep things interesting.
CRIME SMASHERS utilized characters made popular in the pulp magazine SPICY DETECTIVE, Sally
the Sleuth, Dan Turner-Hollywood detective, Girl Friday and Ray Hale. Artists on this series
included Myron Fass, Adolphe Barreaux, Joe Kubert, and the great Wally Wood. CRIME
SMASHERS would ultimately last fifteen issues.
THIS BOOK IS AVAILABLE IN BOTH HARDCOVER AND TRADE PAPERBACK EDITIONS AS WELL AS IN FULL COLOR AND BLACK & WHITE.
