Dallas's nickname, the Pegasus City, didn't materialize out of thin air. Or did it? In 1934, the people of Dallas installed a giant Pegasus sign atop the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. Rotating 450 feet up and visible from up to 75 miles away, the red neon Pegasus became a symbol of the city and a wayfinding point for drivers and pilots alike.
