For one of her last recordings,
Etta Jones
sings a wide variety of
standards
, many of which she had not recorded previously. One does not think of such songs as
"Did I Remember,"
"After You've Gone"
(definitely an offbeat choice),
"They Say It's Wonderful"
and
"Slow Boat to China"
as
blues
, but
Jones
gives each tune such a bluesy approach that she transforms them into new soulful pieces. As always,
Houston Person
's tenor is a perfect match for
' voice. The rhythm section with pianist
Richard Wyands
