Joseph A. Balogun, PT, Ph.D., FACSM, FNSP, FAS is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Health Studies at Chicago State University (CSU). He earned his Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in physical therapy from the University of Ibadan and his master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Before CSU, Professor Balogun has held faculty and administrative positions at several universities globally: Russell Sage College, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, University of Florida, Texas Woman's University (TWU), and State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn.
Professor Balogun is an accomplished academic leader, and strategic planner with more than 30 years of success designing, implementing and evaluating high-quality educational programs at major US universities. He is well-suited with the main strengths in the areas of instructional programming, course design, and interdisciplinary curriculum development for traditional and non-traditional students. He combines educational administration expertise with a history of accomplishment in operations management, grant procurement, and transformational leadership. Professor Balogun has made significant contributions to the knowledge base in Physical Therapy, Ergonomics, and HIV Behavioral Research. He has published five books/monographs, seven book Chapters, twenty-one abstracts and over one hundred and twenty full manuscripts in peer-refereed journals; and presented his research at over sixty scientific and professional conferences. In 2003, he was awarded the prestigious J. Warren Perry Distinguished Author's Award by the Journal of Allied Health; and in 1992 he received the flagship research Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM). He, in 2015, received the prestigious Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (FNSP) and the renowned Fellow of the Academy of Science (FAS) in 2017.
