I see, I hear, I smell, I taste, I touch. But how is it, I ask, that I possess one consciousness instead of five, each consciousness associated with a different sense and thus like the senses each consciousness irreconcilable with the other? For surely sounds, sights, smells, tastes and touches are incomparable. Each is a unique and inimitable way of perceiving the world. Therefore, I speculate that the only way I know I am one and the same consciousness, one and the same person, is because I experience the different sensations simultaneously. I am this simultaneity.
