Over the next three years, all the prisons in New Earth were emptied, and the inmates sent to the moon. Only 63% of the inmates survived the voyage. The decision to move New Earth's prison system to the moon was made for two reasons: first, it freed up critical space on the planet's surface for housing developments and industrial facilities; second, moving dangerous criminals to the moon would keep the population of New Earth safer. In 2139, The New World Order passed a law designed to deter criminals from ever committing a crime. Not only would the criminal be sent to the Moon Penitentiary, but their entire family - parents, and siblings, or spouse and children, depending on the age of the convicted person - would be sent along with them. Fugitive Dirk Haston has managed to rescue his wife and daughter from the lunar prison his family was forced into when their son, Garth, committed a crime on earth. Though he has mixed feelings toward his son, he's won't leave the moon without him. Stuck in the biodome without many resources, Dirk decides to reach out to a guard who has come through for him before. Unsure of her willingness, Dirk's family breaks into Hanri's house and take her hostage out of desperation. Though she faces the ruthless director's torture and her own jail sentence, Hanri agrees to help the Hastons in return for a favor. Unfortunately, she has already drawn suspicion and aiding the family won't be easy. It may be impossible, but it will be worth it if she gets what she wants in the end. The Hastons and Hanri devise a way to free Garth, and themselves, from the clutches of a merciless administration and the unforgiving boundaries of the moon. Once their plan is put in motion, complications hit them from every angle. Now the question isn't whether they will succeed, it is whether their freedom will cost one-¬or all-of their lives. Set in the not-too-distant future, full of sympathetic characters rife with tangible emotions, Fugitives is the third book in an original science fiction dystopian series entitled "The Moon Penitentiary" by author Nick Langenberg. The first three books are available now.
