Karen couldn't believe her eyes. Why in the hell was Rob holding a gun to Jason's head?
She ran to where they were standing, "Rob NO! What are you doing?"
Rob cut his eyes to Karen then quickly looked away.
Karen fell to her knees and laid her head on the side of Jason's face. She wanted to get in between Jason and Rob's gun but couldn't. "Whatever he did," she paused and shook her head as she could feel tears build in her eyes, "It can't be this bad. Please Rob." She paused again, her voice cracking as she spoke softly. "Don't."
Rob's eyes danced between the brother he wanted to kill and the sister-in-law he could never hurt. They all were silent as the constant beeping from the alarm system sounded indicating to turn the alarm off, but no one seemed to notice. Then a lady's voice was heard throughout the house, "BBC Security, is everything okay?"
Jason slowly turned his head to Karen and nodded. He mouthed to her "Baby say yes."
Karen looked around the room. She could hear her own heart beating. She looked up at Rob and saw tears streaming down his face. She didn't want to say everything was okay. But at the moment she had faith in her husband's judgement. "Yes, everything is alright." Karen said as calm as possible.
"Who am I speaking with?" The woman's voice asked.
"Karen Young."
"Mrs. Young, what's your safe word?"
She formed her lips to say "Children." The word that would send police to their home, but Jason stopped her. "No baby" he whispered.
Karen took a deep breath, "Money" she responded.
"Thank you Mrs. Young. I'll disconnect the alarm from our side and log this as a false call. You have a nice evening."
Karen heard the alarm stop beeping and saw the light on the panel turn from red to green. "What the hell is going on?" She looked to Rob, "You're scaring me!"
Rob could hear the fear in Karen's voice. "Don't worry Karen, I'm not going to kill you." He said as he pressed the gun harder to Jason's head...
