Elvis Presley
's catalog has been chopped, shuffled, repurposed, and reissued in every conceivable permutation...all except one, which would be fan favorites as voted by the hardcore denizens of the Worldwide Web. These fans had a selection of songs divided into several different categories -- arranged by decades and themes, such as Love Songs, Gospel, and In Concert -- and from there, they produced a 21-song compilation that covers many of the usual suspects, along with a couple of mild surprises. Among the latter is the double presence of "Suspicious Minds" -- once in its hit studio version, once in a live rendition -- and inclusions of "Memories" and "Welcome to My World," but this is not quite enough to offset the familiarity of another go-round for "Don't Be Cruel," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Jailhouse Rock," "Viva Las Vegas," "In the Ghetto," "Always on My Mind," "Kentucky Rain," etc. It's all good, all enjoyable, but not quite distinctive. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
