The aim of this study is to map, analyse and compare the import multipliers of products from Brazilian headquarters, focusing on products related to the automotive industry for the years 2000 and 2009: 'Cars, vans and utility vehicles', 'Trucks and buses', 'Other transport equipment' and 'Parts and accessories for motor vehicles'. To this end, a bibliographical survey was carried out on import theories with a focus on Brazil. A historical retrospective was also carried out in order to highlight the strategic importance of the automotive sector for the country's economy. The study used input-output analysis, based on research by Guilhoto and Sesso Filho (2005), to estimate import multipliers based on the data available in NEREUS (2015). These were classified by technological intensity, according to OECD (2011) and Amaral (2014).
