SS Standartenführer
Dr. Heinrich Mueller kept a diary while stationed at Auschwitz. He decided who will live and who will die. What horrors did his diary hold? Containing many little-known facts about the Holocaust and the rise of Neo-Nazism in the United States, this fictional story has many twisting plots, all spinning out of control toward an unexpected, climactic ending. This book contains graphic descriptions of what happened in Auschwitz. Words can never begin to describe genocide on this unconscionable scale. The book
is
a fiction work, and most characters
are
fictional. However, some characters are
real
people who participated in the Holocaust, beginning with Hitler. You will read his words from
Mein Kampf
and the inflammatory rhetoric in his speeches. You will also meet the
Kommandant
of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and read, in gruesome detail, the atrocities the Germans committed on millions of Jews. Finally, you will meet Witold Pilecki, the real-life, courageous Polish officer who volunteered to be sent to Auschwitz as a prisoner so he could record the atrocities there. He eventually escaped to warn a world that refused to listen and was cruelly rewarded. I include their photographs, when appropriate, as I want you to see the faces of the people responsible for the horrors they inflicted on the Jews and the faces of the brave heroes who opposed them. I want their images to sear into your consciousness so that when you hear their names, you will realize they were humans. However, they weren't like us - they were monsters. You will also meet four fictional characters. This Holocaust Rubik Cube of characters challenges you to rotate and turn the puzzle trying to solve it, but is it solvable? Perhaps this book will give you some clues.
First, we'll meet Dr. Mueller, a doctor at Auschwitz who was part of
der Auswahlprozess,
or the Selection Process
.
Through his diary, we will experience Auschwitz as never before. Who was he? Why was he there, and did he ever regret his role in the Holocaust? We also will meet Dr. Freedman, a ninety-five-year-old German professor who helped me translate Dr. Mueller's diary. He admits he was in the German Army during the war. However, he may be hiding a terrible secret about his role in the Holocaust. Then, we meet Dr. Freedman's "wife." A woman with multiple personalities, someone who was oddly eccentric. Was she FBI, CIA, KGB, or simply delusional? Finally, we meet Commander Chico, a young white supremacist who thinks America should be racially pure and is willing to start a second civil war to achieve it. Past, present, and future voices sharing
their
Holocaust stories. Why did it happen, who allowed it to happen, and could it ever happen again? We must never let the Holocaust's wounds heal over time.
