Excerpt from Minutes of the Providence Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church: Held at Bristol, R. I., April 1, 1857
The same Committees as last year - with the exception of that on Me moirs - were ordered.
The Secretaries were instructed to govern themselves by the report of last General Conference, in keeping the journal.
Took up the 2d question of Discipline, Who remain on trial The following brethren, having passed a satisfactory examination, were con tinned on trial: J. N. Collier, Robert Parsons, and B. K. Bosworth.
Wm. E. Sheldon did not present himself for examination. He was con tinned on trial.
The 3d question was taken up: Who are the deacons? Orlando N. Brooks, J. W. Willett, J. A. M. Chapman, and L. E. Dunham had all passed a satisfactory examination. Their character also passed before Conference. Sickness prevented J. T. Benton appearing for examina tion. His character passed.
A communication was read from H. W. Smith, requesting to withdraw from the M. E. Church. Conference voting to grant his request, his parchments were returned.
