's band, went out on his own for this orchestra date. The jazz content on the CD reissue is fairly light, but the occasional solos from tenor saxophonist
Teddy Edwards
, the infectious rhythms, the clean and frequently exciting ensembles and the six percussionists (which include
Willie Bobo
and
Mongo Santamaria
) result in some stirring music. The styles range from Latin jazz and mambos to a few originals heavily influenced by rock & roll. A fun set. ~ Scott Yanow
