(Amazon Customer, S. Warfield, 4 stars) North Korea: Countdown to Conflict has a lot of information in it that I have not read before, and I'm a voracious DPRK reader. The basic background on the Kim family and their regime is given and how they have self-deified themselves beginning with Kim Il-Sung, founder of North Korea. Current leader, Kim Jong-Un, is the grandson of Kim Il-Sung and seems to be a much more brutal person. The nuclear defense system continues on despite what the current president believes. Bridges states that "The administration of president Donald J. Trump has shaken up U.S. policy toward North Korea". This book is very good in its discussion of the relationships between North Korea and other countries that one might not realize that those relationships exist. It is the first time I've read about Pakistan's role with North Korea, and the book reveals that the DPRK isn't quite as cut off from the rest of the world as we might think.
(Kindle Customer, 5 Stars) I read on Kindle. This is great, scary and thought provoking. So many insights that though culled from public information seem very classified, or missed in the main stream media. The news is fresh, lots of recent sourcing and seems to be a great 360° view of the problem. Great job
The situation in North Korea is dangerous and complex. If you ever wondered how America came to be in a stand off with this hermit nation and why it is so difficult to find a way out, this is the book for you. On the geo-political stage, this countdown to conflict impacts and involves far more countries than the U.S. and North Korea. Once you know the history, people, leadership and lingering anger of North Korea and its allies, the situation becomes more clear...but finding a resolution becomes bleaker. The truth is disturbing, but it is important to know.
(ReddStak, 5 Stars) This book compiles all the latest information on North Korea into one concise and thorough read. I learned many new things about North Korea's dealings in the Middle East and beyond. Altogether a great book.
