The first time I photographed Kelly was a few years ago. In my small studio in Milan.
One light. One dress. One pose.
Kelly asked me what she had to do.
I told her she just had to look straight into her camera. She was wearing a black jacket, mine.
Perhaps they are the most beautiful portraits of her of all those we have done over time.
A confident, direct, defenseless gaze. Sometimes extremely seductive.
What I learned from photographing her and hundreds of other models is that it takes as little as possible to make a good portrait.
The same teaching applies to the rest of all other human activities.
And we make huge efforts to complicate things when in reality they would be much simpler.
The effort is learning to get rid of everything that is NOT needed. This is the Portrait. A life lesson.
Nothing to do with the technique, the camera bodies, the lighting techniques. All necessary things, but they are not the point. The point is to learn how to do without it.
But you can't help but be attracted by such a seductive look, scrolling through the pages of this book.
