This book paints a picture of the stories and personal experiences of professionals from the mental health and addiction field as well as individuals, their friends, and families who had experienced addiction in their lives. The book covers stories from over 50 individuals. Addiction Uncovered looks at addiction more than a disease. The book touches the soul through stories told from multiple viewpoints. It shows the individual who experienced addiction, a family member who lived with someone who previously had or currently has addiction. The book also explores the role of our society, government and healthcare as they relate to addiction and mental health. Addiction Uncovered covers highly emotional content. I hope you will enjoy this book and pass on the stories to others. The book creates an emotional reaction, compassion, interest in the field. It shows that addiction can reach anyone at any place at any time. There are no borders or state lines. Addiction Uncovered provides a phenomenological in dept experience from a variety of people to show a holistic full cycle of addiction and substance issue problems and solutions. The stories come from people who live and work in different communities, from people who are currently addicted to substances, and people who been sober. The stories show multiple perspectives from the general public, doctors, nurses, counselors, psychologist, nurse practitioners, mental health professionals, youth, young adults, people who had worked or currently are working in governmental and non-governmental systems. He book also includes my personal experience as a nurse working in addiction recovery unit in an inpatient hospital setting, taking care of people with drug and alcohol and pain medication addictions. Additionally, the book includes my experience working in a treatment center, in the community and as a family member. I experienced throughout my work as a nurse in the hospital and community setting what people go through with addiction. The book was born from this experience and guided my questions and in-depth inquiry with people about their experiences. Many people and their families opened up to me and shared their stories with me. This book shows addiction through an overall caring and empathetic lens. The stories show validation of people's experiences when it comes to addiction. The book pens the conversation about addiction and challenges the reader through stories of others.
