Excerpt from Pedagogical Pebbles
These Pebbles were suggested and jotted down while I was engaged in the actual supervision of graded school work. This account of their origin explains the form in which they are presented. Each pebble is independent, being related to the others only in the order of its birth.
The book aims to be merely suggestive. The teacher who needs more than suggestion needs more than detail. A teacher's greatest need is inspiration, not direction. No copyist ever inspired a dull pupil. We have already had too much copying. No one ever achieved suc cess in the school room by blindly following authority. Success in teaching comes from a conscious knowledge of correct methods and tact in applying them.
