This book develops a comprehensive concept of personal identity that concerns both theoretical and practical issues. Thereby, persons are understood as life forms that enter into complex relations of self and other. After discussing classical and recent conceptions of a person, the work develops a novel approach that allows us to conceive of persons as living beings who have an inviolable dignity.
