Pond on the Prairie is a sequel to Ronald Newton's previous novel, Tutored Souls. The setting for both is the fictitious town of Klein, located near a small pond on the Colorado prairie in
Logan County. Klein and the surrounding rural community is populated mostly by immigrant settlers of German descent during the early 1900s. This story features a talented, but poor young man, Raimund Knobloch, who pursues the hand of Heidi Klein, whose reciprocated love is discouraged by her wealthy, educated father, Albert Klein, for whom the town is named. Their relationship takes a circuitous turn as they both return after college to Klein and establish their respective careers. Raimund, inspired by his mother and supported by his Catholic faith and
large family, struggles for success as a creative writer and newspaper editor amid a small town burgeoning with growth and striving for economic success.
