When The Great War began, few understood the scale of the crisis which lay ahead. In the coming years, the mounting casualty total of soldiers and civilians forced the people of faith in every nation who clung to Jesus as a model of faithful living to analyze and reanalyze what it meant to faithful in the midst of the conflict. All were shaped by religious rhetoric before the war. The rhetoric of war, however, challenged, changed, and affirmed those previously held Christologies.
