Precarious Plight
, the strange theft of five bodies from the Los Angeles County morgue shifts the search for Ian Marsh's key and developing a vaccine for Lenore Grey's blood hunger to the back burner. When they realize the dead musicians left on their own, Detectives Marsh and Rick O'Grady reluctantly join Lenore, the Count de Poenari, and a vengeful Jean-Jacques Printemps in the hunt for a deranged vampire. While they scour the city, Lenore recalls her first encounter with the sadistic, debauched Radu Bey in 1741. After the death of her beloved Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi in Vienna, Lenore spends time with friends from England bearing news of her estranged brother, William. She then enlists her companion Tsura to help her steal Vivaldi's body and return it to Venice. There, she meets the newly sired, very angry Printemps. Under guidance from her and Poenari, Printemps hones his fledgling vampire skills while they escort him back to France. Before going on to England, Lenore seeks advice from the French writer Voltaire in Brussels on how to close the breach between her and William. Flash forward to 1965, where the frustrating search for Radu reminds Lenore of her second encounter with him in 1765 Wallachia and how the ingenuity of his infamous brother, Vlad Tepes, helped to defeat him. With a third confrontation inevitable, will Ian Marsh's vast knowledge of advanced technology stop Radu Bey once and for all? Or is Los Angeles destined to become Radu's City of Vampires?
