One of the responsibilities radiographers have is to provide optimal x-ray images for diagnosis. A research study was conducted at a participating imaging department regarding the anteroposterior (AP) external rotation and lateral (LAT)-Y shoulder projections. Shoulder images were retrospectively investigated to determine if the x-ray images obtained adhered to specific radiographic criteria such as anatomical structures included for the AP external rotation and LAT-Y shoulder images and if four sided collimation was visible on the AP external rotation and LAT-Y shoulder images. The radiographic criterion, anatomical lead markers for the AP external rotation and LAT-Y shoulder images is discussed in this book. Radiographers (qualified, community service, supplementary and student) at the participating imaging department completed a questionnaire to determine their knowledge on the use of radiographic criteria duringimaging of the shoulder. The results of this data identified a gap between theory and application.
