Margaret Heller has everything she ever wanted in life: the perfect husband, adorable kids, a wonderful job with great friends. Her days are filled with t-ball practices, dance recitals, and bonfires with friends and family. Just as Margaret is basking in the glow of a self-proclaimed perfect life, fate reveals different plans, plans she's not ready to accept.
Thrust into a world that no longer makes sense and a world she no longer wants to be a part of, Margaret finds solace in the escape books provide, becoming a voracious reader to an almost damaging degree. To further escape her new reality, Margaret takes her library to Hawaii, further removing herself from her painful past. While on the sandy beaches of Waikiki Beach, Margaret meets adventure-loving Will who refuses to let her waste her vacation away behind a book, and her plans of doing nothing but reading and getting a tan are derailed. As she slowly begins to discover all the island has to offer, Margaret starts to remember how beautiful the world can be and how it feels to open her heart again after immense grief. But it's also incredibly painful, and Margaret must decide to either keep running from her past or face her new life head-on, in all its painful beauty.
Running Home is a story of life and loss, grief and joy. It's about trying to find yourself when life doesn't go as planned, and the relationships in our life that shape us along the way.
