The Dresden Secession - Group 1919 was founded just a few weeks after the November Revolution. Initiated by painter Conrad Felixmuller, progressive-minded artists came together to support the revolutionary euphoria with the voice of their art. Alongside Felixmuller and Otto Dix, the group also included a number of artists who outside Dresden are today known only to a few people. The volume gives an overview of the Secessionists' work until 1920. Textual contributions are devoted to the cultural environment in Dresden, the Secession's founding history and the contemporary reception of its exhibitions. Further topics are the cooperation with the Prague artist group "The Stubborn Ones", Will Grohmann as a patron and companion of the group, and the Secession's further development in the 1920s.
