This EP distills the essence of long-running Swedish trio
Frak
into four hypnotic acid techno tracks. The impressive ten-minute title cut finds eerie synthesizer washes floating over an insistent beatbox rhythm, which only seems to get slightly more aggressive toward the end of the track. The main reason to get excited about this EP, however, is because it includes two tracks from one of
's most sought-after releases, the
Boerft EP
. Released by
Sex Tags Mania
in 2012, it ended up trading for astronomical prices almost immediately following its limited pressing. "Synthfrilla" in particular is an instant classic, taking a simple beat and an absolutely perfect melody and repeating them with limited variation for five minutes until they run their course. It's hard to put into words what makes the track so special, but it feels ecstatic nonetheless. The other two tracks that round out the EP are a bit more minimalist and EBM-tinged, and "Synthgoek" is the more memorable of them. ~ Paul Simpson
