The author may be permitted to add, that while he has thus carefully based his work upon authority, he has still further verified the views therein expressed, by personal observations made during a residence of eight years in France, and that under/circumstances which permitted him to become acquainted with the Opinions entertained by the French people themselves upon the subjects referred to.
