"Though its heart is in the right place, based on this DVD, it's questionable that the little seen drama The Guys will gain a larger audience. There isn't too much going for this disc, which is unfortunate. On the plus side, both 1.85:1 anamorphic and full-frame transfers are available. The picture is good enough, without serious distractions, but not exceptional. Colors and flesh tones are reproduced nicely. The detail isn't it's strong point, though, as lines tend to blend together. Equally, the English 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack, while presenting the dialogue clearly, offers nothing else. Surrounds are non-existent, but taking into account the film's low budget, and that fact that is it so dialogue driven, it's difficult to expect anything else. This mediocre package winds up with two supplements, a generic promotional spot for the soundtrack and a remarkably effective theatrical trailer. With the subject of 9/11 still so timely, it's a shame that more couldn't be offered, whether a commentary track or a documentary on the fast translation from the stage to the screen."
