The American church has long internalized White dominant culture's language regarding racism, crime, punishment, and reform.
The Language of Abolition
reframes racism as an idol that the church must exchange for self-awareness, one that is informed by a new understanding of harm, consequences, and abolition. Such a transformation is only possible when the church contends with this nation's history of policing, mass incarceration, and need for repentance through reparations. Only then can the prison-industrial complex (PIC) be replaced by a new world where everyone is human and all needs are met. Therein lies collective liberation and Kingdom come.
