Hobart's election was bitterly opposed by 'low Churchmen.' Griswold was ordained deacon and priest by Bishop Seabury. Moore was a leader of the Evangelicals.' Kemp wrote 'letters in vindication of Episcopacy,' 1808 Croes' had previously declined the Bishopric of Connecticut.
