"The Tunnel," by Dorothy Richardson, is a continuation of the series which started in "Pilgrimage" and passed on through "Pointed Roofs," "Backwater" and "Honeycomb." In "The Tunnel" the heroine gives up impoverished gentility for still more impoverished freedom, and becomes secretary to a London dental establishment at a pound a week. "The process," a reviewer in the Atlantic remarks, "is more than a little suggestive of post-impressionism and of the most skillful work of the imagists. Its mainsprings are, first, the immemorial urge to expression, and, after that, a uniquely responsive sense of the livingness of life."
