In this volume, Desmond Tomlinson recounts his later adolescent years in Jamaica. He recalls the reasons he was placed in a temporary foster home and the painful circumstances that allowed him to be united with his second foster mother. This account includes his brief reunion with his biological family, including his only brother, whom he thought he would never see or hear from again. During this time, a growing awareness of his own potential to free himself from his past is born along with the beginnings of his academic aspirations.
