This book is the memoir of a young woman who, having lost all of her family members at a young age, goes in search of a God she can truly believe in. Even at the tender age of four years old, Madeleine prayed to Jesus. Being born into and raised in a religious Jewish family, this was as forbidden as it was a radical thing for her to do. Following the death of both of her parents and only brother, Madeleine was free to pursue her dream of becoming a dancer, an actress, a playwright. She studied Hinduism, traveled to the desert of New Mexico, meditated in small adobe churches, read the New Testament, had revelation and miracles occur. Although raised to pursue the traditional values of marriage and children, luxury and comfort, Madeleine chose instead to follow her heart, pay the price, take a risk and in so doing, she found God. Goddess. Herself.
This is the autobiographical narrative of her journey. More specifically, it chronicles the last two years of her life as a Jewish believer in difficult circumstances. This book touches on such themes as the painful struggle with her family's rejection, her feelings about patriarchy and relationships, authority figures including pastors, financial hardship, the aging process, finding community. This memoir is the heartfelt story of a woman on a mission to speak the truth in a world filled with pretense and lies, rivalries, egos and power struggles.
Throughout history the artist's role in society has been to shine a light on things that aren't working, to imagine a different way, to envision a new day. In writing this book, it is the author's wish that, women as well as men, will be inspired to follow their heart's desire whatever it may be, and in so doing bring us all to a deeper connection to a living, loving God.
