In a world where everyone has a superpower, what makes a superhero?
That is the question that Titan Academy poses to its inaugural class, and Charlie Whittaker thought she had the answer. Kicking ass and taking names is what it means to be a professional hero and Charlie plans to do just that. Except when she gets to school, starts a fight, and earns detention in her very first week, she quickly learns that couldn't be further from the truth. Desperate to prove herself at the district-wide tournament at the end of the year, Charlie isn't sure that she'll be able to help her class win if she can't answer this question.
Meanwhile, Academy co-founder and headmistress, pro-hero Honor de Mora is stretched thinner than her limited edition trading card. Titan Academy is the change that Honor wants to see in the world, in the next generation of heroes, but she's not sure she's up for the job. She's made her fair share of mistakes and more than one comes back to haunt her and put her kids in danger, the most pressing being a threat from the school board: win the end of the year tournament or lose the school permanently.
