Chapter 1 The Raid
There was a light knock on the bedroom door. "Come in", the lady inside said softly. The housekeeper walked in with a tray bearing a delicious treat for Mia before dinner. She had spent just two years in the house, but she absolutely loved the only child of the home. Mia Kaplan was always lively and carefree; she bubbled through life. Right now, she was concentrating really hard on her laptop screen trying to finish up her homework. Sadly, her happy attitude didn't guarantee her academic intelligence, but she was by no means dull. Mrs. Hernandez, the housekeeper, allowed herself an indulgent smile as she saw the frown of concentration on Mia's face. "I brought you a little something before you join the family for dinner downstairs." "Thank you, Mrs. Hernandez. Just need to finish this up first", Mia replied. "Is Papa back yet?"
"No, but he will be back in time for dinner."
