Kaleah James is in the after school program at Wilmer Elementary School. A new employee Ms Bah is hired as a caretaker of the children. Kaleah loves Ms Bah's long colorful dress and is curious about the short broom Ms. Bah tucks in the sash of her dress. Sometimes the other workers are not so nice to Ms. Bah, the same way the children are not so nice to Kaleah because she goes to catholic school. Kaleah and Ms Bah grow closer to each other when Ms. Bah shares the story of the short broom.
