WISDOM THUNDERBOLT (2007) is the first album in three years from Mick Flower's highly prolific noise ensemble Vibrecathedral Orchestra, and it finds them in fresh and varied form. Songs run the drone gamut from oddly soothing fuzzed-out pulses ("Rainbow Whirlwind") to fractured electronic clatter and celestial synthesizer swiggles ("Wisdom Thunderbolt") to what is--for a few tantalizing seconds, at least--nearly a straight-up rock jam ("Sway Sage"). Fans will be pleased by this strong return to form from one of noise music's most consistently engaging groups. The album features guest work from, among others, Skullflower founder Matthew Bower.
