This early collection of poetry is work from 1980 to 1990. I was inspired by Henry Miller and his then wife, June, whom he wrote so passionately about in both "Tropics" and sprinkled throughout various other of his famous works. Both he and June created these special cards, which were little postcards that they sold on the streets to tourists, in order to earn money for meals and lodging. Each one told a little story, a little history, a little scene about some particular part of Paris as they experienced it. If you've ever read Miller, I'm sure they were a little more colorful than the typical postcard. They would go out, buy scenic postcards, and Henry would write a story or poem on one and June would walk the streets to sell them. Out of necessity, and love, they created this income. Charming, yes?None exist today, but in their true spirit, I have created these "postcards" of my thoughts, insights, emotions and feelings for my most special companion of 39 years, Debi. We have been many places, seen many things, shared many memories, lived Love.Like June was to Henry Miller, she provides inspiration, adrenaline, observations and of course, love; through the many, many, many times we have shared together. She is my Muse and my greatest asset. What we have I wish everyone could experience at least some time in their lives; because of all the things I've seen and known, there is nothing, truly, that compares to the truth called "Love."Some of these are rather elementary in their subject, bordering on sophomoric; but that is the fun in finding things from your past where you felt so fully with your heart that it didn't matter how immature your musings were, as long as you somehow expressed them, shared them, got them from the head to the hand in some form or another.I invite you to print these on hard cardboard and collect them along with future entries in this series. I also encourage you to write your own and, like a deck of cards, and hand them to those you love when they need to be reminded of your admiration. In this day of self-publishing, perhaps a movement can even be created of your own poems, handed out freely, openly, with love.Tom Typinski February 14, 2017
