Conor Murphy is a Czech-American boy living with his family in Prague Czech Republic. He lives with his father Matt, mother Dana and sister Jana. Conor wants to learn to play baseball. Dad takes it upon himself to teach Conor. It takes a year for Conor to learn the finer points of the game. Dad takes Conor to a youth baseball tournament and a youth baseball team practice session. The team lets Conor practice with them. The team SaBat is having tryouts the next Saturday. Conor attends tryouts. He is selected as one of three new players. He develops into a fireball pitcher and a home run slugger. Conor learns sportsmanship and works to make the youth games more enjoyable for the boys rather than eyeing the opponents as enemies and not a opponents. His sister Jana takes ballet lessons and is selected to dance a solo at the school's recital. Jana does well and is offered a scholarship and a staring roll in an upcoming production of the Nutcracker. Conor's team makes it to the playoffs. The league has a banquet for all the players. Conor is disappointed that he did not receive a team honor. But a special award comes his way.
