Food historians trace the first recorded mention of iced tea to 1823, where it’s mentioned in a wealthy countess’s memoirs as a kind of Italian novelty, with ice likely sourced from the surface of a nearby frozen pond or lake. It wouldn’t be until after the advent of electric iceboxes in the 1920’s and 1930’s that iced tea would become the near-ubiquitous beverage it is today. We’re certainly doing our part with Trader Joe’s Black Tea, returning to our shelves after a brief (albeit not unnoticed) absence. Here, we’ve taken on all the trouble of steeping, brewing, and cooling the Tea for you, plus the extra step of packing it in convenient, one-gallon jugs so that you can serve it anytime you’d like—no frozen ponds or old-timey iceboxes required.
Kettle-brewed from whole black tea leaves, Trader Joe’s Black Tea is the ultimate in tea refreshment—not just during summertime, but anytime you’re looking for a crisp, caffeinated pick-me-up. Each sip offers hints of toasted tea notes, while its warm caramel hue brilliantly sparkles in a tall tea tumbler. While we find the best iced tea experience calls for serving it over ice, you’re also free to simply keep a jug in your refrigerator for whenever the mood strikes. We also recommend garnishing it with a fresh lemon or lime wedge, mixing in fresh raspberries or a sprig of mint, or mixing it with your favorite TJ’s lemonade for an effortlessly easy Arnold Palmer.
