This period drama is set in medieval times and centers upon the tumultuous family life of an aged aristocrat. It all begins after he marries a much-younger, naive woman. She is a beauty and soon the nobleman's son has secretly fallen in love with her. Later a king and his page visit the household and upon seeing the lovely bride, the king falls in love with her too. To protect the honor of his stepmother, the young son guards her door with a dagger at the ready. The king is unable to risk her temptations and dons his page's clothing. He then attempts to sneak into the bride's boudoir. The stepson catches him and ends up stabbing the king's wandering hand. To protect his master's reputation, the page later stabs his own hand and then goes out to deliver a message for his liege. En route, he encounters the pugnacious stepson who challenges him to a duel that ultimately ends in a draw. The page then reads his master's missive and learns that the castle is in grave danger. Hastily they both return, and upon arriving find that the old aristocrat has learned about the shenanigans concerning his wife and as a result throws a royal hissy-fit. The misunderstandings escalate from there and violent tragedy ensues.
