I've read countless self-help books and watched numerous clips, and one problem I have with many leadership guides is their tendency to teach based on almost unrealistically ideal scenarios. Let's face it, the journey to leadership and influence isn't always smooth. I often wish I had someone to mentally, emotionally, and spiritually prepare me for the challenges I would encounter to become a better leader. The truth is, when someone asks, "How do I become a better leader?" The answer often lies in the conflicts and challenges faced. Becoming a better leader requires facing the music and learning to dance. What I failed to grasp was that the quality of my dancing would reflect how well I understood the songs of conflict. Looking back, I realize I didn't know how to dance, and I lacked the right mentor to guide me.
