One of the many Kate Wolf albums released after the singer/songwriter's 1986 death from leukemia, 1996's CARRY IT ON gathers an excellent cache of live radio sessions recorded for the legendary freeform radio station KPFA in Berkeley between 1977 and 1981. These 12 songs range from Wolf originals to such previously unheard gems as a trio of songs by Woody and Arlo Guthrie, "One By One," "Forsaken Lover," and "Highway in the Wind." There's also a remarkable version of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" which actually manages to find something new in the much-covered song.
Some of these tracks feature just the singer and her guitar at the microphone, while some were recorded in front of a full and appreciative audience. Of Kate's originals, the previously unreleased "Sweet Love" is the highlight. Wolf's longtime musical partner Nina Gerber plays guitar and mandolin on several tracks.
