Asit has realised his childhood dream of setting up a rescue organisation, although it is not the 'International Rescue' he envisioned, instead it is a group of shapeshifters who can become animals at will. Jill helps Jay when he is injured as a cat and finds she can telepathically contact the shifters in their human form. For Jay life is often a struggle between human and cat as each tries to control his body. It is gets even worse when 'Cat' has its seasonal periods of lust, pushing Jay's feelings to one side and taking what it wants. When the packmaster of the largest pack of werewolves in the county wants to find out about the shifters he sends his son and his stepson to join them. Unaware of the plotting behind the scenes, Doug finds an environment in which his homosexuality is not scorned, and friends who accept what he is rather than try to change him. Both the werewolves have to make changes to fit in with the shifters. Each of the International Shifters Rescue team must learn to deal with injuries, death and romance in their own ways.
