Ulpian's commentary ad edictumis one of the great texts of Western legal thought: its mighty layout reflects centuries of prestigious knowledge, destined to play a crucial role in the laboratory of modernity. Together with the Institutions of Gaius, it is also the work most used by the Justinian compilers in the drafting of the Digesta, and consequently the one we know best of all Roman jurisprudence.
