Monarca butterflies are strongly associated with Día de Muertos. Every year, these brightly-colored butterflies embark on a long and difficult 2,500-mile journey from Canada to México. As their arrival coincides with Día de Muertos, it has long been believed that their migration symbolizes the arrival of the souls of loved ones for this important celebration.
