Frank Berg, rescued from Kerguelen Archipelago, receives another commission in the US Navy with the express task of seeking out one of the aces of the German submarine command with a newly commissioned Liberty ship with improved anti-submarine capability. Kurt Stein, a U-boat ace follows Admiral Doenitz' orders to lie in wait for American merchant ships on the East coast. When these intrepid captains meet what will be the outcome?
