T
he beauty of a poet's words is in the language, metaphors, and manner of speech they employ. Translating poetry into another language is not an easy task, and it remains true that Ghani Khan's poetry blossoms beautifully through Pashto's eloquence. However, I have tried to the best of my ability to honour that eloquence and to transmit to readers the feelings and the essence of Ghani Khan's poems. To this end, I have taken the liberty to move the words around within the limits of the thought wherever it became necessary. I have also refrained from translating some words from the original language and have instead provided the meaning in footnotes. I took this liberty wherever I felt that the beauty of the word was at risk of being lost if directly translated into English. The mountains in the title symbolize the grand province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). The magic of these lush mountains is synonymous with the beauty of the Pashto language, especially when used in poetry. I feel like Ghani Khan's words echo through the mountains, and the world can hear them if they are listened to with attention.
